My name is Kieran, I recently finished my A-Levels studying Business, Economics and Geography at St Bartholomew’s School. My plan was to get a marketing or management apprenticeship in Berkshire this September.
However, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, apprenticeships were put on hold, with the majority ending their apprenticeship programme and the remaining ones filling their spots before I had a chance to get an interview.
Nustream gave me the opportunity to gain experience and skills in sector that I am looking to pursue in the future. This lead me to join the Nustream Marketing Department for two-weeks work experience, specialising in Digital Marketing.
Week One
My first week in the office started with the usual early morning routine. Although, this was never a problem for me as I always enjoyed waking up early throughout lockdown to stick to a routine. Once at the office, I felt immediately at home with all of my colleagues welcoming me and willing to help me if needed.
As part of my work experience, my task was to produce an email campaign promoting the new Xerox PrimeLink Printer C9065/C9070. I begun by finding print and design companies around the South East & West of the UK who may be interested in the PrimeLink. Throughout the day, I found and gathered details of over 100 companies that fell into this criteria.
During the week, I designed and edited a draft version of the PrimeLink mail campaign. It gave my the opportunity to use new platforms such as MailChimp and the Xerox Partner Portal. The first mailer was released on Thursday morning with results being tracked every hour. It received a high open rate of 35.4% within the first couple of days, however, no leads came through. After reviewing the statistics, I looked to make improvements to the campaign and resend it on the Tuesday during my second week.
Week Two
I thoroughly enjoyed my first week at Nustream which motivated me to produce the best results possible. The next task was to find more businesses and improve the mailer – keeping the theme of promoting the PrimeLink but also highlighting its features.
During my work experience, I was fortunate to attend a number of meetings to understand more about working in the office. I found these interesting as it allowed me to gain further insight in how virtual meetings are run and structured.
On the Tuesday, we resent the improved campaign to a wider audience. The results from the second mail campaign were more favourable; with around 130 opens and 1 click overall. Unfortunately, this still did not generate any leads, so we decided to create a brand, new mailer.
We focused this around the new Xerox CMYK adaptive technology. The PrimeLink has the capability to switch out the standard toner for Gold, Silver, White & Clear. This mailer was released on the Thursday with a much higher success rate. After only a few hours, the new mailer had accumulated 220 opens and 7 clicks.
I finished my two weeks at Nustream by giving a presentation showcasing what I had learned and what my future plans were. Despite the short amount of time, I found this work experience opportunity very beneficial – it allowed me to gain an insight into the digital marketing industry.
