Although a global pandemic has its obvious drawbacks, it has also brought many new and exciting possibilities. Find out how I became Nustream’s new Digital Marketing Apprentice and my top tips for those looking for new opportunities…
About Me
When I wasn’t baking enough banana bread for a small commune or redefining criminal activity with an extra daily walk, I found lots of time to contemplate the options I had for my future.
Like many other people this year, my education was brought to an anticlimactic end, so I knew it was something that I wanted to further. Originally, I was set to study Digital Media at university, but with the move to online classes and freshers’ week being cancelled, it no longer felt as appealing.
I decided to consider new ways of entering the Digital Media industry and discovered Digital Marketing Apprenticeships. The fact it could continue my learning and be a step closer to my career goal, got me more enthusiastic about my future.
Looking back, I’m almost grateful for lockdown, as without it, I wouldn’t have joined the Nustream Team, working as their Digital Marketing Apprentice.
My First Month
As excited as I was to start my next chapter, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous when the alarm went off on my first Monday morning. However, I needn’t have worried. After being in the office for about five minutes, I was already offered my third coffee. It was at this point, I knew I was in safe hands. This was only reaffirmed by the supportive atmosphere the office created when setting my first tasks.
Nustream was eager for me to experience the real responsibilities of the role as soon as possible. I found myself sitting in on calls, creating real content for social media platforms and completing product courses. Luckily, due to the nature of the office, I wasn’t overwhelmed, as I felt safe to make mistakes and ask for help.
During the first week, I was introduced to my mentor and tutor from West Berkshire Training Consortium and iTech College. They explained how my course would be taught and assessed, which differed to my past schooling experiences. I look forward to seeing how my learning can be directly applied and assist me in my new role.
Nustream organised a meeting with their previous marketing intern, Harriet Cummings, who shared her experiences and words of wisdom. I still have a long way to go until I’m at her level, but I’m confident that I’ll receive both support and guidance throughout my apprenticeship. I’m excited to embark on this new journey as Nustream’s Digital Marketing Apprentice.
